After completing a Master's degree in history, during which he was actively involved in Jewish campus life, Rabbi Jaffit lived in Israel from 2009-2014, where he pursued advanced rabbinical studies in Jerusalem. There he also taught in a number of Jewish educational institutions. Since moving back to Canada, Rabbi Jaffit serves as a military chaplain in the Canadian army reserve. Rabbi Jaffit holds the rank of captain, and is posted to the Toronto Scottish Regiment, ministering to the needs of this unit of combat soldiers.
